Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's attempts at mainstream fame were disastrous. Before any new material could even be put out, two record labels signed but then removed Perry. Capitol Records however released Perry's EP Ur So Gay in 2007. The title song was a fun and playful single that garnered little or no notice. I Kissed a Girl - an ode of sexual curiosity - was made available a few months after. It had a hard electro-pop sound, and had a strong position. The song quickly stirred controversy, as critics criticized the song for encouraging sexual relations between gays and lesbians and others charged that the sexually explicit scene it depicted catered to male fantasies of sexuality among females. I Kissed a Girl was a smash hit for Perry's debut album The One of the Boys in 2008 because of the mixture of titillation combined with polished music. Hot N Cold's sharp, bouncy second single was also well-loved. The album Perry wrote in large part sold more than three million copies.
